Corruption: the fear of losing power

“It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it”.

Psychology says:  Fear is a vital response to physical and emotional danger— if we didn’t feel it, we couldn’t protect ourselves from legitimate threats. But often we fear situations that are far from life-or-death, and thus hang back for no good reasons. The word POWER means “possession of control, authority of influence over others” (Merriam Dictionary).  Fear of dispossessing authority, immunity and status in a society naturally ushers one to protect it. Fear impairs one’s sense of right and wrong, compelling an individual to use the most unethical tool to guard his security: corruption. If power and responsibility sticks with the concept of yin and yang, then its very own concept itself is irrevocable. It is your responsibility because you have the power. And because you are entrusted with power, you need to accept a certain responsibility as its counterpart.  Entrusting someone with power can trigger a fear response within them that is hard to quell. Yet exposing oneself to personal demons is the best way to move past them.
